Academic Program

Edison aims to develop educated and competent students to be social, creative, and able to act effectively as critical thinkers within the different cultural contexts. Students will use effective skills to help them understand themselves better and develop greater tolerance and solidarity with other people of the 21st century.



The academic program is focused in providing students with opportunities to fully develop their personality and talents throughout varied, dynamic, and interactive educational activities. The diverse school community of Edison recognizes the importance of knowing both English and Spanish, while providing learning experiences that enhance the development of the whole individual with whom Edison is committed to.



For Edison…

  • Every child is different and has the capacity to develop his/her talents and interests into an auto sufficient being within our learning community. 
  • The educational process is a joint effort in which the teachers, parents, and all those who make up the Edison community, have a defined and measurable responsibility towards developing Edison’s whole child. 
  • All the learning experiences respond to the development of Edison’s whole child.

The school is divided in three levels:

Preschool (Kinder 1 and Kinder 2)


 

  • Big Day program for Pre K prepares the students for success in kindergarten and beyond. It provides a curriculum organized around “Big Experiences” involving meaningful conversations using innovative technology.
  • Pre K students are also introduced to a variety of vocabulary words and basic commands. Emphasis is given to oral communication.
  • Kinder students are introduced to phonics, reading and writing. Math and Science are introduced in English to continue expanding their vocabulary.

 

Elementary (1st – 6th grades)



 

  • First through Fourth grade students continue to expand their vocabulary and in fifth grade their concepts.
  • History will ingress their vocabulary as well.
  • Social Studies is integrated in English in 5th and 6th grade.
  • Students will develop effective communciation skills, both orally and in writing.
  • Students will become capable of expressing their thoughts and ideas orally and in writing.
  • Students will become strategic and independent readers, enjoying reading for pleasure.

 

Secondary (7th -12th grades)



 

  • Middle and High School are completely bilingual.
  • English is fully exposed.
  • Students will continue to develop effective communication skills orally and in writing to use language proficiently for a variety of purposes.
  • Students will continue to be strategic and independent readers, developing skills in analysis and interpretation.
  • Students will apply concepts and comprehension skills to solve problems in real situations.
