Move Up Day

Move Up Day is a special event where students learn more about their next level of education, such as preschool to elementary school, elementary school to middle school and middle school to high school. Move Up Day marks a milestone in our Cardinals life.

This is a fantastic opportunity to support students in their transition from one level to another. It is an excellent chance to familiarize children with the unfamiliar, clarify the unknown and provide reassurance and comfort to them and their parents.

Preschool to First Grade

For our preschool Cardinals, moving up to the elementary school marks a big adjustment that will have an immediate impact on their development. For a successful transition, the child must have prior knowledge of the new environment he or she will attend. Move Up Day is a scheduled activity that allows the child to engage in developmentally appropriate activities while getting to know their new teachers and surroundings. On that particular day, kindergarteners come by the first grade classroom to participate in some enjoyable activities that will offer them a taste of what to look forward to in the upcoming academic year.

Elementary to Middle School

At our school we work directly on the emotional health of our students. Our activities are designed to target this particular development. The Move Up Day is one of the activities that helps students adjust to the transition from one level to another. In the case of Elementary School, a day is planned in which sixth grade students take a class with Jr High School teachers and with seventh grade students. They visit laboratories and talk about common interest. This, among other things, offers the opportunity to get to know some areas with which they will be working on the following year. On the other hand, a meeting is held for parents so that they can meet the Jr High School teachers and clarify doubts or questions corresponding to the new level that their children will enter.

Middle School to High School

The transition from middle school to high school is a crucial and exciting time in students. Besides changing from one level to the highest in Edison, it involves getting prepared for college and all the academic, psychological, and social changes that it entails. The transition from middle school to high school has the purpose of reducing the high pressure of a new environment that is more demanding do to the many decisions that students and parents need to be make while getting prepared for college. The transition involves meeting their new faculty, having diverse workshops such as time management skills, stress management skills, setting goals, decision making, and organization abilities, parents orientation meetings, among others. In the transition period, students learn from their peers, explore extracurricular activities, get to know the service learning requirements, and have the opportunity to ask and receive answers from peers, the counselor, and faculty.

Athletic Activities

The sports and athletics activities are organized by the physical education faculty. This component promotes positive health behaviors allowing students to be healthy both physically and academically. Besides offering the academic physical education courses, this faculty is in charge of the Edison teams in the different categories, such as: Basketball, Volleyball, Soccer, and Track and Field, among others. During the school year, the different activities and tournaments are planned depending on the sports season.

Edison also participates in the Athletic Leagues and intercollegiate tournaments as member of the “Central Occidental Private Schools Athletic Alliance” (COPSAA), including:

  • Tournaments organized within the school.
  • Tournaments to which Edison is invited.

Intramural teams are organized by grade and level as part of the Edison’s activities. Every year, “Field Days” are celebrated by level.

Edison has excelled in sports and athletics throughout the years, and is recognized as a strong team, evidenced by the numerous awards received.

Social Activities

Edison celebrates a variety of social and cultural activities addressed to the development of the whole child in its social dimension, to which we are committed through our Mission and Philosophy.

Students, faculty, administration, and staff engage in the development of varied activities, thus strengthening our “Esprit de corps” environment. These activities encourage the interaction between groups, levels and ages, while social awareness is developed. They are provided to strengthen their academic goals and school spirit as Cardinals. Among these activities, are the following: Senior Week, Appreciation Days, International Night, “Noche Puertorriqueña”, Prevention Week, Cardinals’ Market, Art Gala, Monthly Assembly’s and Field Trips.
