Preschool

Preschool

Over the years, Edison has been refining its distinctive preschool program, which has shown to be incredibly effective and successful. It is evaluated periodically to include cutting-edge methods that align with Edison's mission and philosophy. For every academic level, our school integrates the findings of recent research and best practices. Parental involvement, or the degree to which a parent participates in their child's education and life, is encouraged in Edison's preschool program. Our preschoolers benefit from parental involvement by keeping our Cardinal parents informed about what is happening inside our classrooms. As part of our educational philosophy, parental involvement in the curriculum fosters the social and effective growth of the student.

Kinder 1

For Edison the Kinder-1 level entails those students that are four years old and entering the preschool level. The curriculum for this grade is based on the guidelines of the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). The series Wonders for Pre-kinder is used. World of Wonders provides the support and structure children need, while building a cross curricular knowledge, establishing classroom routines through diversified instructional pathways—all while giving kids the framework and support they need for early reading. Additionally, it promotes kindergarten readiness by exposing kids to an education that lays a solid foundation of knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed for success in kindergarten, including:

  • A focus on letters, oral language, knowledge-building, and listening comprehension.
  • The development of social-emotional skills.
  • Math content that is developmental and recursive.
  • The Integration of science, social studies, and music in every unit.
  • Hands on activities, internationalization, mindfulness, learning centers and inside and outside exercise, using their senses.

The essential elements for Kinder 1 are:

  • Child's social emotional development
  • Language and literacy development
  • Recognition of the alphabet
